Student Recognition:  Kody Beauchaine

During the 2008-2009 school year, the Michigan Department of Education, Detroit Tigers Curtis Granderson, and Triumph Books partnered to produce the book "All You Can Be:  Dream It, Draw It and Become It!  A contest challenge was made to fourth graders across the State of Michigan to submit an illustration showing what they would like to be when they grow up - along with what they would need to study to accomplish their dream.  Each school could submit one entry.  Kody Beauchaine's illustration was selected from our fourth graders work.

Kody's illustration was selected to a part of "All You Can Be."  His illustration depicts a rock musician with the illustration heading "When I grow up I want to be a rock star, so I need to study...music theory, composition, public relations, performance..."

"All You Can Be" by Curtis Granderson and illustrated by fourth graders across the State of Michigan, came out in August, 2009.  A copy of this book is in our school library!  Senator Mike Prusi, Representative Steve Lindberg and Governor Granholm have written special comments and signed our school copy of the book!

The staff and Board of Education of AuTrain-Onota Public School are very proud of Kody and this outstanding accomplishment!

AuTrain-Onota Public Schools -- Fully Integrated K-8 Public School District

At the Regular April Board of Education Meeting, held April 20, 2009, the AuTrain-Onota Public Schools Board of Education voted to expand our educational program to include seventh and eighth grade!

The K-8 District Resolution states that "The Board of Education hereby determines to expand its grade levels to include seventh and eighth grades, thereby making AuTrain-Onota Public Schools a fully integrated K-8 public school district in the State of Michigan beginning in the 2009-2010 school year."

The Board of Education has spent five months studying the possibility of adding these grade levels.  At all states of the district study, the board and administration have looked at, listened to, and taken into consideration views expressed by parents, community members, and staff members.  Many hours of contemplation and review have taken place in order to reach this decision.

Adding seventh and eighth grades to our program offers parents and guardians a resident district opportunity for their child's education in grades Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.  The seventh and eighth grader program will include all core curriculum subjects as required by the Michigan Department of Education, as well as elective subjects.

Special Education and Title I programs will continue to be offered for qualifying students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade.

For additional information on the learning opportunities at AuTrain-Onota Public School and enrollment information,  please call the school Administration Office at 906.343.6632.
